I am a pickling fool this summer! And it is barely summer!
Do any of you have a reliable source for pickling ingredients? I need prolly a pound or more of celery seed and mustard seed. Bless you all!

Another good source for herbs and spices, esp. if you are getting large amounts, is My Spicer.com. They have great prices on whole and ground chili peppers and dried mushrooms, as well as a lot of unusual ingredients, mostly used in commercial foods, but can be used at home, as well. Caramel powder is one of those that I have found uses for, but there are others in my pantry I have bought there.

Penzey's! That MySpicer.com site is quite interesting. It would give a whole new dimension to "camp food". Kinda like carrying your pantry in your backpack!

Ameriherbs out of Ames Ia. is the cheapest i have found, you can get organic or non, and they only charge actual shipping cost.

Another powder they sell that I have found useful is the molasses powder. This is great in the cookie season, when I want to make my own substitute for molasses - just add the powder to the dry ing., and add some water to the egg. Much neater, and tastes as good, as long as blackstrap is not the molasses called for.
