Ever since TroyBuilt was bought out by MTD they have never been the same.

I agree i try to find older used models if i buy troybuilt. I Avoid all mtd products. It usually means paying more but well worth the trouble in the end.

ANYTHING built by that company is junk, IMO. Four summers ago (so three years), my sister bought a Cub Cadet riding mower, total purchase prices was about $3700. It has been a complete and total disaster from day one. I think they've had it back for various repairs probably 12 times now. What a piece of ****.

I hate to be an I told you so kind of guy (well, ok, sometimes I love it!), but I tried to tell her NOT to buy it, because it looked like junk to me. She insisted, because our neighbor has a Cub Cadet from the 1960's that still works -- NOT made by the same people, the only thing that persists is the name and the yellow paint.

According to the reports, Troy-bilt (MTD) is doing nothing to "make it right" with the folks who have had these failures.
