we feed our dogs bones from a butcher, rabbit, poatoes, brown rice. organic veggies and fruit.
For treats they get jerky made from ground meat we buy for them. Or some times dehydrated hot dog slices. |

Thanks, Genny, Bluelacedredhead, Nicole and veggiecanner for the ideas. I used to make meat jerky for backpacking, so guess I can make it for treats as well as baking the cookies, etc.
I like the idea of making dog food, that way I'd know what was in it. My one worry would be about making sure about the nutritional content but I can probably figure that out.

My homemade dog treats.
I buy chicken breasts at the local discount grocer. I cut them up into cubes and boil for about ten to fifteen minutes. I drain and then dehydrate. Dogs go ballistic for these things. Nothing in them but chicken and the cost is about 1/4 of a premium doggie treat. They keep without refrigeration. Don

Thanks for the info! We take such care of our own food, seems we should for our animals too.

Just remembering the Diamond Dog food mess some years ago. If I recall, the dog food was made in the US, it was just an ingredient that was imported from China. yes?

I've been making my own doggie treats and have made some for the farmer's market; will see if there's a market here for that kind of thing.
They turned out really cute and my pup loves them.... of course, she loves everything. ![]() If any of you want to try one for your dog, PM me your addy and I'll pop one in the mail for you. I'd love to know if your pet likes them. I need some 'taste testers'. LOL! Rozie

I feed my little dog once per day after her morning walk. Never treats. Her food, a bit of frozen raw liver daily, and a piece of lamb meat frozen usually with a piece of bone and some fat, since it is shoulder meat. Periodically I drop a piece of what I am eating and sometimes she eats it or if no palatable rejects it. My dog is slim, trim and always active. She walks 5 km every day without fail, and never sleeps unless I do.
