Plant of medium growth with deep green leaves buds or flower heads green nearly round or slightly elongated scales rather narrow and spiny moderately thick at the base.
A species of sunflower. A tuber than thrives well upon dry soil and is cultivated for feeding sheep and swine. It is also used for pickles. The tops when cut and cured make an excellent dry fodder. It is propagated by tubers which should be set in rows four to five feet apart and one foot apart in the rows. Three bushels are required to plant an acre. Qt. 40c pkt. 2.50 net.
