No, they're not.
The first may or may not merely be generic to describe any Phaseolus vulgaris that is solid black (such as Trail of Tears). Black Crowder is a variety of cowpea that produces a black seed. Jet Black I believe is a common bean, but I have no first hand experience with it. Black Turtle is a common bean. It's a smallish bean, typically used in Carribean dishes. In each case we're talking about the actual beans (seed) that are black. The pods are green or purplish green. However, there also are a few varieties that have black pods. Of these, Black Greasy is arguably the prettiest.

Thanks Brook
The Black Crowder and the Black Turtle Bean are two different types of beans. The Black Greasy sounds like a cool bean pod - how do they taste? |

Totally different. They even are in different genuses. Black Crowder is a cowpea; Vigna unguiliculata. Turtle Bean is a common bean, Phaseolus vulgaris. The Black Crowder probably originated in Louisianna, btw. Another one, Rouge et Noir, also from Louisianna, starts out red, then turns black as it matures. A real pretty pea.
