Welcome to our forums! This online gardening community is different, political, and organic. I decided to start these forums so gardeners would have a free place to discuss heirloom gardening, gene-altered food, seed saving, natural politics and products. We are dedicated to saving our food and horticultural heritage, and hope you enjoy this forum for the free-thinking gardener! Wishing you great gardening, Jere Gettle |

northern vermont, not that far from quebec. bitterly cold and snowy winters with wet and mild summers that end as soon as they start. still we grow and forage most of our own food which we freeze and can. our biggest successes and staples in gardening are tomatoes, winter squash, carrots, and beans, in foraging fiddleheads, mushrooms, blackberries, and wildcrafted herbs and greens, and in farming chicken, eggs, eggs, and more eggs (worth their weight in gold at this time of the year and bartered for grassfed beef). looking to continue expanding the orchard and gardens, add to the flock, and try new livestock perhaps a dairy goat or two or some sheep.

I live in Ramona California on 12 acres at 1800 feet elevation. I am about 40 miles NE of San Diego. We are certified organic and can grow year round but i love heirloom tomatoes, melons, watermelons, mulberries and pomegranates so i grow in summer and fall. Some years i have had tomatoes in February but usually about 3-4 frosts in the winter prevent year round growing. Since the Witch fire of 2007 all the gophers, squirrels, rabbits and coyotes have been hitting the farms as there is no natural vegetation to sustain them. Lost 75 per cent of my melon and watermelon crop last year to these animals.hope to connect with melon fanatics in the quest to secure and grow out Central Asian melons so we can preserve them.Have been growing black tomatoes since 1991 and love em.Just joined a few weeks ago.Love the forums and ideas and seeds that are traded.

I am a teacher, and I grow old roses while potager gardening in and amongst the roses. I live in Plano, north of Dallas.
Each year, I grow a few more veggies and a few more herbs. I teach at a school with a horticulture program, so I am providing seeds for kids - then I buy back plants at the annual sale. |

Native Southern Californian here. Currently a container/patio gardener, a little less than 20 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean and not too far from Disneyland either. I am new to your site but I LOVE it! So many great tips and friendly folks here.

I live in Richmond Hill, GA technically, but I am in the county and live on an island that has about 60 homes. There is one road on and off the island, a causeway. The causeway is an asphalt road that rides you through the marsh ( at eye level no less) and is prone to flood over during Spring tides which strands me until low tide comes. Needless to say, I have to evacuate during a hurricane warning or else I would float away!
The great thing about living where I do is that I have wonderful neighbors. Not to mention that there is a horse stable on my island, and I can go get free manure for my garden whenever I want!
