I am curious. We have lived in a lot of overseas countries, and in some of them the word cilantro is used, in others culantro, and in others coentro. These are all exactly the same. If a different variety exists in Gringolandia, I would like to know more.

Cilantro and Culantro are two completely different plants in the U.S. They don't resemble each other in any way as far as appearance, but are very nearly identical in flavor. I have both, but have had little to no success with cilantro due to extreme heat here. The culantro looks like it should be a suitable replacement.

My cilantro is flowering and setting seed now now. I am going to save the seeds and try it as a fall/winter crop. I suspect that in our mild winters it will grow all winter, like lettuces do.
Maybe the answer for the Deep South and Southwest is culantro in the hot months and cilantro in the cool months?

It's cold here and I can't even get the stuff to grow from seed.
I've even tried in the aerogarden.
