Speaking of redbands, the trout-of-the-month for May on the 'Trout of North America' calendar to my left is a Skull Creek Redband, O. mykiss newberri. There are a whole bunch of subspecies of rainbows and cutthroats, and I'm slowly working on catching as many of them as I can - just for fun.

I don't care what fish I pull in, if it's big enough and edible it's getting cooked. we were at the illinois river last year and this really nice gent and his friends were fishing and mum and I got skunked which is fine cause we still had a nice picnic, but this poor man... my nephew accidentally knocked lose his stringer and my sister went in the river to get it for him. He was such a sweet heart. a grampa himself so he just helped Robert get his line out of the weeds and was showing him how to cast and everything cause somehow my nephew at 8 is a bit of a chauvanist (sp?) and girls like me can't know how to do it right. when we all left he offered us his catch since we got skunked and he had a freezer full he said. I gave him the left over flat breads I had made as plates. it was just big honking carp, but once we picked the bones out it made really good fish cakes.
No point in wasting anything!

He was a darn good painter, doing the job on time and right. Couldn't let him catch botulism, that squid had been riding unrefrigerated allday while we fished. BTW I love squid also.

Jug fishing or trot line for catfish. But any kind of fishing will work for me.
