Everyone should remember that once a service member is discharged from their military obligation, they are considered a civilian and veteran, and they do not officially represent the U.S. Government in any way. By stating that the U.S. Marines are going to protect these protesters is misleading. To state that former U.S. Marines or U.S. Marine Corps veterans are going to do this is accurate.
In response to the poster that stated that Marines were communist, I believe that the statement of out of line. Every day of every year there are U.S. service members from all branch of services that put everything on the line for the United States and its citizens. They are deployed to areas by orders of their civilian chain of command. To call them communists is out of line. A military only functions when there is an established chain of command and there is discipline in the ranks. It takes courage to put on a United States military uniform and take the oath to protect and defend this country. For someone that hasn't chosen to take this path, it is very difficult to put yourself in a service member's shoes. A civilian job is in no way comparable to the dedication and professionalism that it takes to serve in the military. Sure there are some bad apples in the military, but I bet that the percentage is much smaller than the number of bad apples in the regular civilian population. Thank you. I have many more good memories than bad ones. I feel very fortunate to have been allowed to serve in the Army for over 23 years.
