CNN) -- An 80-year-old woman who died after being found unconscious in a restroom at an eastern Georgia McDonald's was killed by a lethal dose of carbon dioxide, authorities said Wednesday. An investigation determined that a "bleed line" on the tank used to carbonate beverages in the McDonald's drink dispenser was "improperly disconnected within the wall cavity," Pooler, Georgia, Police Chief Mark Revenew said. No one mentioned if she had eaten there first..... ![]() Not funny, but is in a twisted way.

Never heard of anyone dying from CO2 levels. Must have been a pretty big leak. I would think they would notice a leak that big in their co2 usage.

co2 is colorless, orderless heavier then air gas. without a detector there is not way to tell if any room has a lethal level of c02 in it.
the contractor who installed the line and the building inspector who was supposed make sure the line was installed correct are people who are at fault. |

Do they even make a carbon dioxide detector? It would go off anytime someone breathed on it.

I used to work at a meat processing plant in the wastewater department. We used CO2 (liquid) to correct the pH of the influent. It was injected below the water level, and the left over came out as a vapor cloud. To remove it from the building, there was a giant vacuum system over the pit. One night, the vaccuum system failed and I was working in the center of the plant doing a project that kept my eyes up. I began feeling light headed and seconds later heard a coworker yell for me to get out of there. I looked down and could not see below my knees for the vapor cloud. I did manage to get out (barely) and the next day, I came down with a chemical pneumonia.

Just as a point, it appears that co2 killed the old lady, not McDonalds.

Friend of mine answered a call over the intercom--- "Explosian, room 103, first floor bathroom"
He arrived to a Lady lying out in the hall--soaking wet, not hurt. Nobody 'cept Johnny knew what happened-- Rushed up to the roof, opened up roof air conditioning unit---the coolant/ chilled water interface had been breached--pressure on the waterlines--when lady flushed the commode---Boom!. |
