Welcome to our forums! This online gardening community is different, political, and organic. I decided to start these forums so gardeners would have a free place to discuss heirloom gardening, gene-altered food, seed saving, natural politics and products. We are dedicated to saving our food and horticultural heritage, and hope you enjoy this forum for the free-thinking gardener! Wishing you great gardening, Jere Gettle |

This is just the tip of a (melting) iceberg. If the scientists are correct (and all the evidence is there), the real problems are still to present themselves in their full force. Most or all of us will be gone by then. As always, we leave the real mess to those who survive us.

The problem of 'peak oil/soil/water' will impact the people of the world much sooner and to a greater degree than will the (very real and soon to be severe) effects of human caused climate change. Extinction of many life types, biodiversity loss and deforestation are big concerns as well.
All these problems are just symptoms of the real problem, namely to many people doing to much consumption in a limited world. There is no sustainable solution for 6 to 9 billion people here and I think most of the people alive today will live to see the unfolding of great eco-horrors. Many such human caused eco-horrors have already occurred and are quite evident for anyone willing to look. Last edited by HillsideDigger; September 25th, 2007 at 08:40 AM.. |

At the time when the fossil cycads, palms and tropical animals lived in the Northern U.S., the Northern U.S. was actually a lot further South. Our Continent has drifted Northerly since those days.

O.M.G. Now something NEW to worry about. Continental Drift! Seems to me that the North American Continent is drifting more to the Left than to the North these days. ![]() Hod.

Good One - but if it is heading left now - maybe it's a little overdue. I think we've been headed both Right & "South" for quite a while.

I am pretty right sided conservative, some have said 2nd only to uprooted kentuckian and I do not hold too much to radical ideas. But what I know is this: it is hotter and drier in upstate SC over the past 10 years than for a long time before that. My daddy remembers 2 droughts growing up, but they were gone the next year and things got back to normal.
I hate hot weather. I am ready for some global cooling like they had in the mid to late 1700's!
