Grass is always greener over the septic field lines. Lots of moisture and fertility. Considering planting about 10 blueberry bushes over mine. Any comments?

I don't think it is a good idea to plant anything over septic fields .. only because the roots can cause havoc on septic pipes ...

Actually, when we have summer droughts, like we are having right now, the grass over the top of the septic tanks dies first, I guess due to shallow soil. That's the only time I find it easy to locate the tanks. I can even tell where the covers are due to a round circle of particularly brown, crispy grass.

I agree with Wendy. Also, if your drain field has to be dug up for any reason, you would lose your plants. Plant clover. It has shallow roots and will attract bees to help with pollination.

I guess it depends on the conditions over your own septic field. We have two people saying that the grass there dies first, but the grass over my drain lines stays green all through the drought. Seems like a waste to just have grass there.
Maybe you should do some research and see if you can learn the depth of blueberry roots. |

We put in an evapo-transpiration system years ago. The effluent line from the tank was covered with straw, then stone then gravel & top soil. Evergreens were planted along the ridge which was formed oover the line. The trees drew the moisture from the line and evaporated it into the atmosphere, still works as far as I know. These may not be legal some places. But it only stands tpo reason things are gonna be greener over a field as that is nutrient rich and most always moist. It could be dead pover a shallow tabnk tho as there is little loss at the tank, unless ya got problems.

This is a fairly new field with state of the art new vinyl tunnels about 24" deep in deep sandy soil. The installer says it should last 50+ years with just us 2 old folks to stress it out. Growing just grass with this free watering seems like a waste of waste water.

Plus the fact that the bermuda over the lines needs mowing every other day when the rest of the yard can go for weeks with no rain in the forcast.
