I seem to remember seeing these rubber and coiled wire things that fit over your shoes to help with traction for icy conditions........

Actually it was really pretty yesterday the sun was shining and all the ice was sparkly and pretty ... but it is not really when you think of the damage it caused ... like I daid we had minimal damage alot of ppl had some big stuff come down still some of the roads are closed and even our Dr. Office they were on a generator and their phone lines were down ..

I don't know about Wendy but I know that we have these rubber strap things with little metal cleats and one has like metal spirals round the rubber. You strap them on your feet and it does help a bit on the ice... But my bum knee is giving me grief since the grand baby bounced me the wrong way this past Labor day weekend.. I almost can't balance myself in the snow this year... I gimp around like an old gramma lady(Oh my I am an old gramma lady) I think I just need my bamboo staff.
On the topic of ice covered plants the cover of ice is not as bad as the really cold weather we had last night and the wind-will dry out my rhododendrons some years. But the trees will creak and groan and all thru the area you will hear what sounds like gunshots or small bombs and it is just big branches snapping off and falling. Silver maples and other softer wooded trees tend to take the brunt of ice storms.

yes if anyone has old trees or fruit trees and willow trees they all seem to be taking the brunt of the ice ...I sure hope the ice called for tonight is not coming thru....
Yea I don't have those cleat things ..Actually I got myself a new pair of shoes today (can't tie my shoes with broken wrist) So I was wearing my plastic garden shoes because they are slip on , the ones I bought are not much better but at least they have rubber on the bottom...Yes I feel like an old lady!!!

I know all that ice is not a good thing, but it is so beautiful to look at, especially when it is really sunny out. When I was a little kid we had such cold winters here, I remember I was tall enough to knock huge icicles off the roof of the house. We use to think that was so special, eating our own 24" icicle in 24 degree weather ...lol

Dang, Wendy!!! Hope the wind stays as calm as possible until some of that ice has a chance to disappear! Looks like some folks will be stocking up on firewood.

We are getting an ice storm today. Hopefully it won't be a bad one.
