Welcome to our forums! This online gardening community is different, political, and organic. I decided to start these forums so gardeners would have a free place to discuss heirloom gardening, gene-altered food, seed saving, natural politics and products. We are dedicated to saving our food and horticultural heritage, and hope you enjoy this forum for the free-thinking gardener! Wishing you great gardening, Jere Gettle |

Long story short.... there was a disagreement... and of course, I pointed out the facts... and the person said what the title of this thread says.
Facts no longer matter... it appears. I was shocked... as this person used to be like me... tell me facts.. not fictions. It's almost like " let me yell, speak my mind, then leave me alone". I can see this in political disagreements, also. Reality/facts have little place for disagreements these days( look at the tv "news"... that's a good example of "creating news", instead of reporting the news/facts). |

You see that frequently on certain issues, here and in the real world. People hate to be told that fluoride is toxic poison. They hate to be told that most vaccines are at best worthless and at worst deadly. They hate to be told that our drs kill hundreds of thousands of patients every year. They certainly don't want to know any of the real facts about what causes AIDS. They don't want to think about the tens of thousands that are killed in MVAs every year but obsess about any plane crash. And they aren't going to put down their cell phones and diet cokes no matter what the health risks are.

Sounds like someone in the family is getting tired of the "broken record" routine.

It is also like in my area where I live... it seems the farmers (and home owners) don't like to hear about run-off could be killing the lake...(according to the "news" I saw this Summer).... here's the lake I am talking about. Quote:
Seems no one wanted to hear this information...even the folks in my area; farmers. To them... talk of water pollution due to their farming practices is nonsense. Some seem to want to ignore problems/facts/reality. They just want to continue "as-is", and want to be left alone. |

Most of us seem to operate under the assumption that everyone wants to know the truth about everything, but I think that at least 90% have no interest at all in knowing the truth, quite possibly because they could not handle it and they know it.
Farmers never seem to want to know that any of their farming practices are deficient in any way, unless it would boost their income immediately.

I think you are right. Sometimes, it borders on harrassment. Find a new subject, already!

Thing is, each person thinks he/she has all the facts and is therefore 'right'. Hmmmm......

As an example, people who smoke, drink to excess, eat sugar and processed foods, or even worse artifical sweeteners, don't want to know what's wrong with what they are eating. They certainly don't think they know they have all the facts. They just don't care about the facts.

Some people are like the plumber who said, all he knew was that
Time will tell **** will smell & water will seek its level. Thats all he needed to know all so! A lot of people are only interested in what effects them right now & what the neighbors are doing & who they are doing it to. Others are pretty much stuck on stupid. They have an opinion but its based on allmost nothing like gandpa was a Dim so hes vote's Dim just like gandpa & gandpa hated Republicans for freeing the slaves ( honest I know people like that) LOL some of these voters did not know Obama was more than tan untill after they had voted for him. I have no idea how this will affect their long term voting habits. We have the educated flexible minds on this form . You notice how everyone learns from one another & someone is constantly changing their position on ideas ROFL Silver was one smart one in the litter.
