I guess the question I would ask myself is- what can i get for free that someone else is just throwing away? Its hard to get what I need in the middle of the city of Chicago. I don't have access to loads of compost, manure, straw is pretty much impossible to come by, etc. If it doesnt come in a bag at Home Depot, I pretty much can't get it without a 40 mile drive out to the burbs (I dont have a pickup truck either!). However, there is a starbucks on practically every corner in the city- so I've been loading up on coffee grounds and put tons into my soil this year!

Thanks for reminding me I need to start collecting coffee grounds from my favorite bakery ( if they are willing) they also sell me my compost
