My cousin bought one brand new in 1957. Candy apple red. convertible. 283 with a 4 barrel carb. stick trans. chicks were drawn to it like bees to honey. it certainly was an extraordinaire year for the Chevy's that year.

'57--Duntov cam, solid lifters ,FI--
GM gave a way 45RPM records then at the dealer etc, Old Zora Duntov took you for a ride in one--Beginning of record "get" in hear the door close, "Isa your sitbelt fastened?" he asked (broken English/Russian)--then the engine roars to life--there is little that beats the sound of a 283 engine with non restrictive exhausts.

Snowing up your way, Jeff? Ed has recertification training at Goddard this week. I had no clue how to pack for him weatherwise, so I sent him with clothes for 4 seasons and layering. It paid off - he is staying in Columbia, where he woke up to cold, windy, snowy weather this morning.

That HEMI was one wicked motor.
NASCAR had banned it, same as they had the 'Black Widow' '57 Chevy a few years earlier, so Richard Petty and other MOPAR drivers sat out the '65 season. Petty went drag racing.
At any rate, 1967 rolled around and proved to be, arguably, Petty's greatest year.
He won 27 races that year including a string of 10 in a row.
Here's what is funny.
They said when he started the season in that Plymouth, NASCAR officials were all over the thing because crew chief Maurice Petty (Richard's brother) and the crew
had made the roof look like a golf ball, with little uniform dings all over it.
They looked and looked and looked...............all the while nobody ever looked under the hood.

Wish I had mine back, Ski--On the way to gold camp, a few months back, Brother and I almost ran off the road slammed on the brakes and backed up---sitting in a fellows drive--'57 Chevy, convertible, absolutely immaculate and origional bought by family in '57, hadn't been touched I eyeballed it from stem to stern.

Post a pic later--buried somewhere here in a folder.

Candy Apple Red was not cheap then either--and it did,--look like a candied apple--deep luster etc--eye catcher--

Chick: the last couple of days were cold again below freezing over night and a bit of snow tuesday morning but this morning was better 34 when I left home and supposed to get around 50's by this afternoon. Warming back up for the rest of the week and even looks like I may get good planting weather this weekend to get my peas and onions in.

Been in late 60's early 70's all week here--Almanac --says an Ice Storm will hit in March, like the one in '93--that one was a killer for the South--3 ft drifts solid Black Ice--My Scout never let me down--picked up a co-worker one morning at 0600-she lived down in a hollow of sorts, "better go back--so and so, you won't make it up the hill"--"hang on --you be in for a treat" said I.

After two days gone from Home exhausted , I pulled up in the drive, closed the door and the Scout just slid down the drive and stopped--shook my head , went inside and collapsed.

"Let'Er Rip" this time , I'm Retired--!!
