I would check Grizzly site or just google for pricing and vendors. I know Woodcraft carries the little Rikon saws and the Jet are pretty common. The ones I saw were all under $300, most under $200 so you shouldnt have any trouble finding one in that price range.


Any of those three (Grizzly, Jet, Rikon) should be decent saws. I would avoid the Delta as it got several bad reviews.

Gonna look at Grizzly and Jet--Jet seems to have some pretty good lathes also.
SIL is a Machinist, a Wizard--first word out of his mouth on lathes--Bridgeport.!

They re-do electric motors , like the 4-5 ton ones ,big stuff-Some go in to Nuke Subs--If one breaks down they Chopper a crew in and fix it, man o man I'd work for food and expenses--

Tweed--saw some specs the other day on current Hemi's, looks like Chrysler dusted off the old blueprints--'63 426 Hemi--425 H.P.--Glad to see the Old stuff coming back--I rode in a '63--426 Police Special--they were taking me "Downtown"--said I was Drag Racing--Cop driving was a regular SA and trying to impress me with his power.(Typical)

They were a running "Hunk of Plunder"

Still have what is left of my Alfa Romeo,'76 sedan --Engine and running gear intact.
Of course the body is near a pile of rust.

During High School I drove one , a Spyder, on the pretense of buying--said to myself--I have to have an Alfa one day--

They run like crazy, 130HP, DOHC 4 cylinder, mechanical fuel injection,5 speed -it would do 120+.
The faster you drove it , the better it handled and ran.--Can't complain for $1500 in '84 money--

Ax: While I was doing my digging on bandsaws checked out South Bends website, they now also make a vertical mill a couple of bandsaw models and are getting ready to come out with a new line of metal working drill presses.

I love their lathes and have a couple of the 1940/50 drill presses in the shop all are solid as a tank, top notch all around. Good to see some top quality stuff still being built here. South Bend is still out of Indiana, Bridgeport out of Illinois, DoAll I believe in Illinois also still al making top notch industrial machines.


Would love to find some used or at a govt. auction for my future shop out in the barn. Only problem is I would need a flatbed and forklift to load/unload and haul the lathes, mill, big bandsaws as most go near or over 1000lbs.

I remember back "When"--I used to go down to the "Powerhouse" to complain about something--friendly rivalry--there sat an Oerlikon Lathe--bought for $5.00 Surplus, by the Hospital--Massive buit in 1942.

"What are you going to do with that Oerlikon, I inquired"

"Well we don't know, somebody said it was off by a half a thousandths"--

Churning out who knows what for 10 years and "only out a a thousandth at the outside"--

Oh, Boy--"Quality, not Quanity"--wins every time--
