Very nice Ax Homer is my favorite american artist. I like that gulf stream and his other nautical ones Breezing Up is one of my favorites. Also like one by him titled Crack the whip.
I like Wyeth too. So many good paintings out there it is almost hard to have a favorite artist or painting for fear of limiting oneself and missing out. Van Eyck was the master of the hidden picture within the picture, one of the first to use reflections in a mirror, etc to hide a little tidbit. I even like some of the more obscure Impressionists such as Berthe Morisot, Corot when he painted people Girl with the pearl is a classic Corot, Mary Cassat also has some very nice stuff. I also enjoy the Rennaissance masters, the vivid blue and red tones in some is astounding. Raphael and Da Vinci are probably my favorites of the big well known ones also like the more obscure like Fra Fillipio Lippi. Hope I got the name right. Too many paintings and too little time. Life is short so live it to the fullest. Jeff

one of the reasons i make it a point to go to as many of their exhibits as i can when they are in our area, phila. & nyc. I love Andrew Wyeth and feel he is as good as any of them in his own style. old masters and impressionists also right up there. Renoir is my alltime fav

Ajla: Chick is referring to your painting puzzle that has us all stumped, myself included. I found many similiar ones but cant seem to get this one.
I think it may be time for some clues or more details. Also: I need help finding a painting. It is by an american artist probably Maine or other New England artist. The painting is of an old Sea Captain and a little girl standing on a bluff overlooking the sea in a storm. The artist does an incredible job of portraying the wind and salt air by the movement of the girls hair. You can literally feel and smell it. Sea Captains face has that wrinkled and ageless look of someone who has spent their life out in the elements. I cant find it and dont remember who the artist was but love the painting. Jeff

Ajla: Yes Sea Captain or Ships Captain/Sailor if you will. Had the typical full beard and Captains cap/hat.
