Ciao all-
Yesterday, I got 2 very large tubs of blushing tomatoes harvested and a decent amount of green Romano Beans. I also collected a basket of different Runner Beans and Christmas Limas for seed. Today is dry and crisp, but it's forecast to rain later this evening. I've got to get more lettuce seed harvested and pull the pea and pumpkin vines. I'll also get any other dry seeds before the rains arrive. I'm hearing from seasoned flower seed-savers that to prevent Thunbergia seeds from "escaping" to parts unknown as they mature, it's best to cover them somehow with little mesh bags, so I'll be doing that today as well. I may also pull the rest of the corn stalks out and keep them in the garage for decorating the pear tree after the annuals are done. I have a few straggler tomato seed cups to rinse and dry on plates as well. |

Still tearing down the garden. I got about 1 pound of dirt in my nose and eyes today. Why when there are high winds does the dirt blow up into your face before it blows away in the wind?

Picekd baskets and baskets of parsley and a few peppers. I'll wash the parsley tonight and spread it out on screens in the spare room to dry.

I just put in an order for two old apple tree varieties ... "Clara's Creek"
and "Cornish Gilliflower" http://www.bighorsecreekfarm.com/descriptions1.htm This place saves old apple varieties and looks like they do a good job grafting and from their photo looks like they send 1-year old trees with a good root system, I'm just going to try growing them out in the back end of the garden where I've already improved the dirt and it's getting all weedy anyway because I'm not growing anything but asparagus out there ... hope and pray and try to remember to WATER THEM next summer!

Got 2 loads of very old and lightweight manure and got the garden within 1 hour of being completely cleaned up! So close to discing time. If I only had 1 more hour of daylight, energy and food I would be done.
Next week getting more manure and planting hundreds of garlic cloves, also bulbs.

The outdoor garden is all dead and gone for the year, but I have the indoor garden growing like mad. It's a jungle in there. Tomatoes, watermelon, pumpkin, cocoa and mango trees and just for fun a bhut jolokia to scare me daily.

I actually worked cleaning my greenhouse out today....and loading in my citrus trees, and other sensitive plants as we are under a frost advisory. Then I dug the caladiums up out of my raised beds, and put them into the shed to dry out a bit before storing over winter. It was a GLORIOUS day to be out working in the gardens!!!
