well, I stopped at Aldis for some fruit and there were these poor little plants maked down to 1.19. I said to my self, self, you don't have room for one more plant, came home with basil, oregano, sage, rosemary, a tomato , 2 banana peppers and 2 green peppers. sigh.

Made an omelet this morning with baby Matador Spinach, just awesome. Started bringing out the patio furniture and cleaning that off, put up the canopy with only three pegs, so went out and bought another set, then later on while we were searching for other stuff in the garage we found the rest of the original missing canopy pegs, so now we have a double set of pegs ;-O.
I was walking the dog this evening and the neighbor waved me over and had a kind word to say about how the front steps looked--yesterday I painted them barn red, and I took her to the backyard to show her the patio tables, the deck and the picnic table also now painted barn red. It's a stunning transformation what two gallons of paint can do, I wish I had done this years ago. She had not been in my backyard for over a decade and just stood and stared and said "You know how to grow all these plants." So, that was kinda nice. I picked up another flat of annuals today, got the marigolds I kept forgetting to buy, and tomorrow I'll plant them with the purple petunias. My patio planters are now planted too. My son and DIL are flying home for a week and I pick them up 6am Saturday morning, I haven't seen them since they moved across the country last fall right after the marriage, so doing all the work to tidy the yard and house is more important than just getting ready for season. I bought a croquet set--with all the bed layouts it should be a riot, the only difficulty will be the dog who is a notorious ball thief and will steal one as soon as it has been thwacked with the mallet. I'm looking forward to them being back home. After I plant the last annuals and finish washing the plastic chairs it is all done outside. I'm looking forward to sitting in a lawn chair tomorrow afternoon with a cold brew, how nice to be able to have it all done. Well, for now. |

No.....beets and carrots I seed directly in a open space in the garden....other veggies get started in cells......I do know people that start their beets in cells though, and have no transplanting problems..... |

Thanks. Planting beets this fall for the first time. Don't know why I haven't done it sooner, I love them. Why bother with chard when you can practically get the save thing with an edible bottom.

I was picking greens for a wonderful Asian steak salad when I found 2 ladybugs together. I take it as a good sign. I have seen several fat toads out there also. Thanks to constant watering, I have a good garden going this year. Never picked snap peas in May before.

Cleaned out the rain gutters that run into my water tank. In the hopes it will rain.

All I did yesterday was water the garden, which desperately needed it. Oh, AND got stung by a wasp! First sting ever from a grouping that has been peaceable for years, no clue why this one suddenly attacked but I was in pretty serious pain for several hours. No allergic reaction, but just stabbing sharp pains for about 5 hours, bad enough to keep me from sleeping. I am SUCH a wuss!

I planted White Swan Coneflower and Rose Columbine I got in a trade here in the Garden forum.
Is this sedge? I rescued it out of the back yard where it was being strangled by English Ivy. What flower is this? It grows from a thick rhizome type root. |
