Bunkie, regarding your question, what's jujube? ... it's a tree that USED to be common in southern Louisiana (where we used to live), so we were told, that produces oval fruit about the size of an egg, with a mild taste somewhere between apple and date. I DOUBT they would grow well in the north, but have read different things about them. I didn't know whether they'd grow here but went ahead and tried planting and ... voila! ... they are growing! and producing! Another plant I'd LIKE to try is mayhaw (for jelly), which is mostly grown in the mid- to northern-Louisiana area, like around Natchitoches. BUT, I read some mayhaws will grow reasonably well quite a ways north.
As far as the spelt I grew, I had thrown that grain out in an area overgrown with Bermuda and other pasture grasses, just a handful, but it came up beautifully. From what I've read, spelt is impossible to thresh at home; but it would be SO nice to be able to make flour out of it, I'd love to find out how the COMMERCIAL threshers do it, because SOMEbody threshes spelt; there is spelt flour available out there! But expensive! Seems like years ago, I'd read a Bible verse that said something about "ring your garden around with spelt" ... (a barrier against weeds?) which I haven't been able to find since. boghunter99, NO veggie pictures?? How sad! Hopefully you will have some by next year? South Africa, just looked at your albums. Really nice gardens!! Wow, you are a long ways away!

early summer and blueberries
Looking forward to this year as last was chilly to start and VERY wet. This year is starting out as to get under my skin... pears, peaches and apples blooming or about to and it was 21 last night and supposed to be in the 20's for several more nights.

YUM! honey! Nice garden, Countrylife. I know what you mean about the blossoms and the cold. I've got apricots blossoming for the first time this year, and the peach tree is starting to bloom; and even my little almond tree ... it's a little warmer here, though, I think. I loved the amount of rain WE got last year; much better than drought.
