http://www.cbc.ca/world/usvotes/stor...mccain-vp.html
My neighbor told me about this earlier today(McCain was maybe 90 minutes from where I live, and gave out some free tickets, too...from what I was told, to see him, Near the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base....at the Nutter Center...)....and now they(husband/wife) going to vote for him"because of his VP pick". Me? Not voting "R" or "D", so it doesn't affect my voting. |

I have heard of her before. In fact, I predicted he would pick her months ago. McCain has to shake his campaign up somehow. Palin has a good narrative history, and is very likable. I won't vote for them of course, but she is strongly pro life, has a gun etc ...
The gun thing is annoying though. She hunts, and is from Alaska, so of course she has a gun. I am from maine, where people hunt and have guns. I live in Chicago, where people have guns, but they are not supposed to, and it isn't food they hunt. I believe Obama got it just right on guns last night. I don't know if disgruntled Hillary followers will get on board with McCain b/c he picked a woman though as she stands for everything oppsed to what Hillary does. We will see. M |

I'm not sure what the strategy is here. Was McCain trying to choose his polar opposite? If so, he succeeded. She's definintely a Washington outsider with absolutely no experience. Does he really expect her to turn Washington around and take the 'good old boys club' to task? She's and her family are as apple pie as they come. Pretty hard to attack her without looking mean and hateful. If that was the strategy, then it was brillant.
It will be interesting to see how this plays it. So far, it hasn't changed my mind in any way. Oop! She's not quite Apple Pie... she's under investigation... sigh. The plot thickens... http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/08/...iref=hpmostpop Last edited by RozieDozie; August 29th, 2008 at 04:17 PM.. |

Begala had a diabtribe today about her being unqualified because of her lack of experience. It made me wonder if he has paid any attention to Obama's lack of experience. At least she has run a town and is now running a state. Obama has been a half-time senator for about the same length of time. She is working class, out of the DC loop, likeable..... this will be interesting.

I think McCain has the stronger pull of the two sides.
Dems: Inexperienced President, Experienced VP Reps: Experienced President, Inexperienced VP A major difference, since the Experience of the President is more important wouldn't everyone agree? - |

Yep, that would be true.

As a former Alaskan (I lived there more than 20 years) I can tell you that Palin is one tough politician. She unseated a three term incumbent to become Mayor of Wasilla, then she nearly became Lt. Governor for Murkowski (she lost by about 2000 voted, IRRC). She then beat Murkowski in the primary, and Tony Knowles in the general election to become Governor. Both of them are major players in AK politics, about as big as they get.
She is big on fighting corruption, has taken on some of the biggest entrenched interests in AK politics (like the oil companies and their cozy relationships with politicians on both side of the aisle). She has cut spending, balanced the budget, and has shown beyond doubt she is honestly pro-life. She hunts, fishes, etc. As to the "no experience" argument, she has three years governing the largest, most challenging state in the union. That is, at least, better than Obama's three years in the world's most prestigious debate club. I was going to hold my nose and vote McCain (but wavering for Barr). However, this choice of his is making me much more comfortable about that vote. |

Just stating that the general consensus around here is that, (god forbid), McCain will die in office, and Obama will be assassinated, so that leaves the VP's. And Biden is more experienced.
