but that is a seperate issue. choosing out china is hardly a job. and first ldies hosted world clss events well before they had a 20 member staff. Im sure of that.
Silver, in addition to what Lorna wrote the First Lady has to supervise the whole large White House Staff and how many rooms and how many meals and how many different persons come to visit from the US and overseas, and how much time is spent in correspondance, and on and on and on.

I could say much more.

If your idea of "work" is a 9-5 day job then you'd better not ask for employment at the White house, despite who might be the President at any point in time.

When I looked at the number of staff Ided for previous First ladies I was so glad to see that there were many other First Ladies with far more staff b'c it seems to me that time and time again threads are started here about the Obamas', but not with a kindly focus, even when it comes to something as uncomplicated, politically speaking, of running the White House as a home, as a building, as a vistor center, and so much more.

About your last sentence.

This is 2009 and I'm sure Teddy Roosevelt and Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover and Abraham Lincoln and others of long ago had smaller staffs. Why shouldn't they? There weren't as many countries to have folks visiting, there weren't the numbers of events that were held at the White House for many reasons, and well, that was then, this is now, on the cusp of 2010.

BTW, when's the last time you designed and ordered China place settings and accompanying dishes for serving for, oh, lets say 150 people?

Part of the "job" for all First Ladies? Nope, some just wanted to add to the China collection and have enough place settings so that all at major dinner events would have the same china.

Thank heaven for Snopes is all I can say b'c I see so many threads here that are started from blogs and said to be true when in reality it's an individual's personal opinion about something which may or may not be factual at all.

Now back to our regular programming.

Carolyn, currently reading a book about Teddy Roosevelt written by David McCullough ( Sp?), a superb historian who also write about John Adams, Truman and the Johnstone Flood in PA which I have read. Superb.

Did you read the job titles??? a few apparently do the same jobs. some it didnt list the duties, or job title, but none did it list the duties any of us cam up with. Its also well over a million dollars. Might not seem like much to us now that our leaders throw trillions around every couple of months but it really is.

I can see your point, but your part of another reality then I am. I see no need for the majority of those people. How many schedulers and press secretaries can one person with no aurthority, or job actually need?

I dont see this as a major issue. Not just because all the others do it as well. but it is certainly a sign of the twsited decadence america lives under.

Silver doesn't work. He doesn't have to worry about losing his job or searching for another job. He doesn't have to worry about receiving foreign dignitaries or administering a huge staff to appropriately manage the White House. He doesn't have any concept of running the White House, what it takes to get the job done. So, why argue with someone who doesn't work or have any concept of what it takes to run the White House staff and organize for banquets, social events, receive foreign visitors, etc.? Why argue with someone who has no concept of protocol in this regard. Breath wasted.

ggg I work well over 40 hours a week. I explained it to you before, but feel free to stay in your 1950s mentality, where males "work" and females stay at home and do as told.....

In all reality if you look at most of human history, Iplay the role of the male AND female. I care for the house, cook, take care of our son, who is a handful, and garden. Also gardening for me at this point anyway, involves digging 2 feet deep with a pick axe, literally one inch at a time as a three year old jumps in and out of the hole. then I have to move the "soil" which is basically clay out of the hole to an entirely different place, which is hard by itself. I could dig atleast 10 or 20 times faster in ohio.

I a voting tax payer of course my opinion counts for you to imply otherwise, is scary actually. I remember a similar argument from you on the SSE thread.

what your answer for me ggg, get a job to pay for someone else to raise my son, and to buy poisoned food? few organic choices in my town. Or wait should I force my wife to stop the carrer she waited her whole life for, and enjoys?

MY whole life I wanted self sustainability, the only way I will ever have it is growing my own food, and literally breeding much of it. trialing hundreds of things.

We hike about 20 miles a week not including our regular walks, studying micro climates, and collecting interesting seeds and plants.

You may think you offended me, but you didnt. Heck even when I went off on another poster here, I wasnt offended. you might as well not try. I live in a realm which will always be myth to you. (yes I know thats a perfect setup for one of your well thought out subtle attacks, have at it)

I actually know a person who knows you in person, and told me some very negative things about you, wish I was able to share. I think you know who, and what they told me, as it was brought up before. To bad everyone else doesnt know you for what you are....

Totally uncalled for and most immature, silverseeds. You have dealt with passing along hearsay before and been burned badly by that. One would think you would learn.

GGG
hmmmm Well I have to file, and my name is on it.....

when did you first work in your life ggg. If I remember right it was pretty young like me. I was working 40-50 hours even during school at 13. how about you. during the summer from 13 till 21 I worked atleast 70 hours , by the end it was nearly 100. 12- 14 hour days no days off.

but your right, at this point in my life for about 1 1/2 yers I had no official job..... but yet still work more hours a week then most americans. go figure.....

so what your getting at is your mind is so boxed in I only work if I have to pay taxes on income, yet just a few postsago you had no problem with michelle obama who also has n official job haing 22 people to help her host dinner parties?

I didn't say you were warned. I said you were burned passing along hearsay and you were. You made a fool of yourself and another person. You need to learn from these things.

And once again, the thread becomes about you and not the topic.
