I enjoy sci-fi but I seldom stick with a book long enough to finish it. The last one that I actually finished, and enjoyed was Tau Zero. I thought it started out too much like a soap opera, but the story line and writing was very good and kept me interested. I read some of the Foundation books about twenty years ago. I also enjoyed them very much. .

Ooo I mised this one earlier! I also love Babylon 5, back when the series was first on we'd have viewing parties at my house with each new episode

I checked A Canticle for Leibowitz out of the library today, going to use this thread for new suggestions .

In more adult sci-fi is anyone else a fan of Neal Stephenson? I've only read Snow Crash but it's one of my favorites, I've got some of his others on reserve for when I need something heavier than the kid stuff.
oh my goodness, I'm reading Anathem now. You've gotta read The Diamond Age. Snow Crash was really good, too.

Growing up, I read a lot of sci fi but was in LOVE with Andre Norton. Storm over Warlock, big favorite, and Ross Murdock of Time Traders ... and then there was Catseye. She was very very special as an author.

There are so many good sci fi authors. Hobbs, yeah, I've read the first two "Fool" books but our library never bought the last one! sheesh.

Garth Nix ... you all just have to read the Sabriel Lirael Abhorson novels ... IMHO Lirael is the best, but start at the beginning with Sabriel.

On a younger note, just re-read Deep Wizardry by Diane Duane. Girl thinks she's unwittingly contracted to DIE and has to go through with it.

Fred Saberhagen started a good series, the first book was called " After the fact " and the second was called " Pyramids " He never did finish the series though.
a other great book I read is called " Pathfinder " but can't recall who wrote it

Anybody remember Robert Asprin's Myth series? Now, that was some seriously silly satire!

I stopped reading scifi after 'The day the grass died'. It scared me too much.

Then don't read "On the Beach" Susie---not Sci-Fi--but if your grass dies, you won't be able to stand this one.

I love dune. I used to have them all. someone was trying to steal out of my truck one time and threw a bunch of book I had behind the seat on the ground, when I was at a campsite one time...... Herberts son, was ok but nothing like his pops.
