With all our March summer-like temps, all my daffs are done and over with and a lot of the tulips too, except for two bunches. Someone told me I had to taste a tulip petal, so I did (have you all ever tasted one?). I do believe that is my favorite edible flower, it tastes just like a fresh green pea pod, it was delicious! Try one!

The ones there against that brick wall are always early. Mine at home are just about to start. My crabapple was opening today and I think the lilacs will start maybe Thursday. That is 2 weeks earlier than I have ever seen lilacs bloom! What that means for me is that when the market opens on May 17, I may have only one week of selling lily of the valley bouquets where usually I have 3 weeks since they are in the dense shade. I am also worried about what flowers I will have blooming around Mother's Day for the early CSA shares. I specifically chose to do a basket right before Mother's Day to be able to give flower bouquets. By that time the bulbs may be all done!

That's incredible... You can count on the Lilac here in zone 5 never to blossom any earlier than Memorial day...regardless how warm a spring/winter. ...strange huh? You are very early for zone 4 ps...My Lilac is still dormant...just starting to bud out!

Right it is a crazy year! We had tornadoes in the next county and snow tonight! On the same day!
I was married on May 15 and specifically chose that day to have lilacs and lilies of the valley. It was a late year and they opened about the day after. I had to force some. The earliest I had ever seen them bloom was in 2010 which was also a very early spring but not like this year! That year they bloomed about the last day of April because I remember thinking 'they are starting in April! gasp!' So now it will officially be the earliest spring ever following the mildest and least snowiest winter of all time here.Pics from this morning. The red tulips are about done and the striped and purples are taking over now. ![]()

Thanks!
Here are pics taken on my deck of my home garden. It is a big square because it was my veggie garden prior to 2008 when I started renting. ![]() ![]() The weeds are bad again this year but I plan to be more vigilant with them.

Everything is blooming now.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() There was a long haired black cat in my garden this morning enjoying the catnip that seeded itself. This garden used to be my vegetable garden prior to 2008 and the neighbor's trees got too big and rooty. It is 25x25 including outside the fence which has always been perennials. I planted inside the fence in the fall of 2008 and things are nice and big now. It is well drained and they like that. It gets part day shade in the middle of the day I guess.
