http://www.durgan.org/URL/?IHDUO 12 May 2012 Bleeding Heart (Dicentra spectabilis)
Bleeding Heart (Dicentra spectabilis) is a perennial and is in a relatively shady area. It is cut to ground level in the Fall and is a blaze of pretty blooms in early Spring. No pests favour this plant. |

Dicentra spectabilis is a wonderful long lived perennial.
Little trick...After leaves yellow...cut back then. The plant will send up new greenery ...and not be such an eye sore. |

Seeing the thread title Bleeding Heart interested me b'c it was only this past Friday that Freda, who has to do all my gardening for me now, brought several sprays of it inside as part of bouquet with the late blooming narcissus Poetica, aka Actea.
My grandmother had a huge plant of it that grew in the shade of an old Maple Tree and it was spectacular. In addition to the normal pink one there's also a white version, but I much prefer the old fashioned pink one. Nostalgia, I guess. Carolyn |

Carolyn, whose perennial beds are pretty full and that's a plus b'c the cost of perennials has gone up and up and where I used to get three for $15 now they are $7 each, but that's b'c the place I used to get perennials from ( BLuestone in OH) I think is one of the best in terms of shipping and the plants arriving in great condition. For many items I can get them at Jung's for a better price, and do. At the first place they owe me three Dianthus from last year when they sold out, so I'd better get on the phone about that. But then I'll feel guilty having then ship only those, so.....here we go again. ![]() Carolyn, who used to buy from White Flower Farm, which is near where she lives, but no more and who had a vigorous discussion with them two years ago in terms of wrong pictures and blurbs as to many heirloom tomatoes they were selling. My orthopedist's wife bought some so I gave him many packs of different varieties and told him they could start from seed and grow them themselves/
