Seeds are now available for the Saldana Crimson Sweet watermelon. What makes this variety unique is:
It's missing its dark stripes Has approximately 1/2 the seeds of the standard C.S. Can reach 13 1/2% sugar content versus the 12% of the standard C.S. If you'd like to find out more about this great new watermelon visit: http://greatideas.icestorm.com/watermelon/ Saldana Crimson Sweet watermelons are deliciously sweet, with a nice firm texture and a lot fewer seeds than the standard Crimson Sweet. A FREE watermelon growing guide is available for download at my website. It includes a lot of advice and pictures.

I wish I could convey just how good these watermelons have been. Their flesh is firm and the taste is just incredible! I've haven't eaten a watermelon anywhere near this good, since I was a small child in Texas. Saldana Crimson Sweets also develop an overall yellowish cast when they are ripe. Finally, a watermelon that tells you when it ready to pick! Rick Last edited by rvalens2; March 8th, 2012 at 04:03 PM.. |

Rick,
Been awhile mister, but the seeds you sent me are up. I dropped them on March 17th, and they took about 50 days (or so) to germinate, breaking my all time best record for 'the longest' seed germination time span. I thought I had lost them, but we had some really harsh roller coaster type temps this spring, most likely they were planted too soon and maybe too deep, but I never gave up on them. I knew the seed was good quality by the looks of them, But anyway...they go in the patch this week after this final cold snap passes. (yea right) That is what I said last month too. ![]() I will use this thread to track their progress, as I am not sure how many people in the deep south have had these grown before. Thanks and enjoy-

This watermelon did real good for me here in North Alabama. It is one of the best and sweetest I have grown. I have a few of the seed I ordered last year started this year. I hope they will germinate. I also saved some of the seed from one of the sweetest melons from last year. Only problem is I had other watermelons in the garden last year. They may have crossed. If these don't germinate I will try the saved seed this year and reorder seed for next year. This watermelon is everything they say it is.

I got mine planted yesterday, later than planned and still have seeds for another planting later if these don't make it. Really looking forward to trying them.
