I bought a tiny packet of Sugar Ann Snap Peas and would like to save seed for next year. But I'd like to eat some, too. Which to save, the first pods ... or the last? Anybody?

Anybody?
I'm thinking, if I pick the first bunch of snap peas and eat them, the plants will want to make more ... because that's what plants want to do most, re-seed themselves ... right? So I think I'll pick the first batch and let them make more and save those. But ... still

When I'm seed saving peas or beans, we always eat the first picking then let the rest go to seed. (On one European bean I let it all go to seed but that was because the seed is difficult to find and mine had been a gift.)
We've found the one picking method works great. This year I'm seed saving Little Marvel, Oregon Sugar Pod II and Cascadia. Happy Gardening! BeckyW |

Thank you both for the responses. I ate only a few ... they were delicious. Now I just have to worry about some rabbit coming along and eating all the ones I'm trying to save!

PS. "Save a cow. Eat a vegetarian." This was a bit unkind. (My family are vegetarians.) There's no need to "save" a cow. They don't belong in our climate in the first place, just let them die out. |

2. Do you mean "as soon let them die out"? Last edited by Horsea; May 4th, 2012 at 02:38 PM.. |

It's a joke. Nothing more nothing less. I thought it was humorous as well as several others that have commented on it. I apologize if you took offense to it but it's not my fault you don't have a sense of humor. Maybe it is something lacking in your diet. LOL
