I was welding at work today, and when I finished and went to turn off the welder... I realized that I had never turned it on! It was that hot!

Plan to live where there is food, water and you don’t need a car... where you’ll know your neighbors… maybe even love them. What a thought! We may have to choose between eating grain on a commune or growing very thin in the city.

After normal temperatures for most of the summer, we're catching it now! 104 in Dallas yesterday, but a "cool" 100 in Ellis County. It's discouraging when you take the trash out in the morning and it's already 83. Time to bring out with fondness the snow pictures from February...

Monday night at 10 pm the heat index was 105! On Tuesday we hit a heat index of 119. I opted out of cutting the lawn.

Cute, yes it is that hot. It finally cooled down yesterday after being in the 100s for most of the week. I have been out digging like a fend because it is going to get real hot again next week.

Hot enough that the winter squash has climbed up on the deck and is heading for the doggie door and the AC inside. Freaking heat index of 110 to 114.

The corn I planted 10 days ago has said, "No thanks, we'll stay in the ground where it's cooler." Germination rate so far 4/32, or 12.5%, counting one that came up and immediately withered. The gardening show here has suggested watering individual plants (not trusting to an irrigation system) every other day during this kind of heat, or every day if temps near 105.
