2 main highways in North Carolina are still closed due to the ice 4 days ago, Highway 9 south of Black Mountain (less than 10 miles West of here) and Highway 276 between Brevard and Waynesville. The TV News reports from the scene show maybe a 3 to 4" ice accumulation on everything which brought down miles of trees along those stretches of roads.

Looks like the ice just skirted the foothills and edge of the mountains in Brevard & Black Mountain where it seems to have been the worst. Slept in Friday morning anf got up to rain. No ice. No complaining here. Hang in there Hillside! Steve |

We have snow again. I hope it does not turn to rain, or icy rain again. The roads are treacherous.

By my definition, on the East side of the Blue Ridge, the Peidmont reaches up to about the 1,000' contour elevation line. The Foothills are from 1,000' to 2,000' with the mountains above 2,000'. Our place sits at 1600' just a couple of miles from a 3,000' tall mountain and within plain site of 6,000' peaks.
There as been some snow and sleet overnight.
