The consumers would be limited in their purchases as the larger the conglomerates become, possibly the less variety within the market place.

Exactly! Perfect example is our media, where 90 percent is controlled by 6 corporations today. Back in '83 it was 50 companies!

My family history was the same. Late 40's and up, Mom made all our birthday cakes, cookies, breads, jams, etc... from scratch and most everything was grown...
