|
Re: any pics for inspiration?bragging rights???
My eggplants have never grown that big. WOW
|
Re: any pics for inspiration?bragging rights???
Thanks! /blush
Yes, those are Earthboxes. I bought the boxes originally for tomatoes, but decided I like them better for bell peppers and eggplants. They do really well in there. I've never had eggplant take off quite this fast, either, even in an Earthbox. It has helped that the temperatures have been above average, with lots and lots of sunny weather. So that let the plant to get big fast, before putting energy into fruiting. I'm excited about it...I swear that thing is visibly bigger every day. I am going to have to save seeds from it at the end of the season. The first bloom it put out has set fruit, and just over the last couple of days blooms are starting to open everywhere. I might need some more eggplant recipes. |
Re: any pics for inspiration?bragging rights???
I've posted the first two photos of bell peppers in other forums, but I did get a great crop of bells last year:
Here's 'Valencia': http://www.grow-it-organically.com/i...alencia1-l.jpg 'Gourmet': http://www.grow-it-organically.com/i...gourmeth-l.jpg 'Alma' Paprika: http://www.grow-it-organically.com/i...rs-alma2-l.jpg 'Bulgarian Carrot' (scorching hot chile!), 'Admiral' Golden, 'Lipstick', and 'Valencia': http://www.grow-it-organically.com/i...rs2011-3-l.jpg Here's the web page with information on how I grew these: http://www.grow-it-organically.com/growing-peppers.html |

Nice tomato plants, Red. I bet there are a lot of green tomatoes sizing up in there. Looks like you're going to have a real treasure hunt to find them all when they start to get ripe. :D

These pictures show "Kitchen Waste Gardening" results, something I've been testing this Spring. My first attempt was with onions, and one root planting resulted in 4 bulbs that could be separated and replanted. Below - bok choy. Here is what is done: Cut the bottom section off of the bok choy, about 2". Can also use celery, lettuce, and many others. Put the root section in a shallow container of water for 3 days (supposedly to leach out pesticides), then plant in your garden. This is planted in a greenhouse raised bed. The first picture shows the planting after 2 days (mid March) and the second picture shows today. I've picked a few leaves off and munched them to make sure they aren't bitter, and it is ready to snip the leaves off and toss in a stir-fry.

Re: any pics for inspiration?bragging rights???
I finally uncovered my greens - had them covered for 3 weeks after planting the 3 week old seedlings, since rabbits would have done them in, otherwise. Here's a slideshow of the 6 week old greens.
BTW, don't ask me how I am going to eat all of those things myself. |
Re: any pics for inspiration?bragging rights???
Just absolutely beautiful, Pepperhead!
And that's interesting, Simplicity, I've never done it. |

Wow, I've never seen tomatoes bloom in a big cluster like that. Trusses on cherries, sure. But that's new to me. Hope those are tasty tomatoes, because you're going to have a lot of them. :D
And you can feed your family with that squash! How old is that plant, and what variety? |

Re: any pics for inspiration?bragging rights???
Growing tomatoes is tricky in Colorado. I'm at 5,800 feet above sea level, our growing season is short, it is scorching hot in the day and cold at night. And it always seems to be windy.
That said, I'm going to be enjoying ripe tomatoes before June. I'm pretty proud of that. http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/l...en/5262012.jpg |

Re: any pics for inspiration?bragging rights???
Look for these to ripen at this stage -
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...s/DSCN2148.jpg This is Indigo Rose. P20's and OSU's do the same thing. Check the bottom of the fruit, for coloring. Make sauce with them. They are not to desirable snackers. |

Re: any pics for inspiration?bragging rights???
I'm growing Indigo Rose this year, when do I pick them some say when green area turns red, some say don't let green turn red. What color is the inside. So they don't taste good raw, but they can be made into sauces?

My Malakhitovaya Shkatulka finally produced a tomato, and while I think it should have grown longer, it was knocked off the plant while I was, um, disposing of tomato worms this afternoon. I think I'll let it sit on the counter for a few days, and see if it ripens up any.

Here are some photos of some of the things I have harvested so far this year. I started all of these things from Baker Creek Seed. Rainbow Silverbeet Chard, Poona Kheera Cucumber, Japanese Long Cucumber.
I have been harvesting chard now for almost two months. I am drowning in cucumbers and feeding them to the neighbors. :) Having a great time. |

Hi everyone,
I took some photos of my garden for a couple of friends a few weeks ago. I thought I might share them here. In the back I have 2 beds. They both measure 4 x 12 feet. I also plant veggies and flowers in the front. Here is a photo of one of my front beds. In addition to the flowers, there is eggplant, chilis, chard, and okra in the front bed. In the front photo, you can see my MINI. One of my other time consuming hobbies is running around with the local MINI club, PhillyMINI.org. Lastly, in the photo of my harvest, you can see one of my two extremely spoiled cats, Easter. I hope you enjoy the photos! I sure enjoyed the gardening. |

Last July 10, I decided to put up a bean tower and have planted my poles beans thick. A bananna squash vine decided to climb the tower as well. I now have a bananna squash resting on the tower. The bananna squash vines have climbed into the cherry tree. Given time, we will have bananna squash hanging from the cherry tree.
