Oooh pretty! We always wanted to buy a house in Palmer or Wasilla but ended up buying up in Fairbanks. Had to go where the job was.

I had to laugh, I've had the cut worms here march down a row of little onion seedlings & have a great meal. Ate over 100 before I found them all. Must be tougher in Alaska or just hungrier I think the "white millers" are the mature stage, dragon flies love them but never get them all.
Aphids a problem some years too, in warmer wet years they've been real bad.
I may add some mint, I heard that helps for aphids.
It just goes crazy here & get into everything over a few years, but smells nice. May keep it in pots & place in around the edges.

I've had problems with cutworms in the past and read (I think it was Mook?) here about planting onions with your other stuff to deter cutworms. So, when I sowed my cukes and melons (and will do it when I get off my lazy butt and plant my beans) I poked a couple of those little onion bulbs in the ground next to the seed...not one seedling lost to cutworms this year! I'll be adding this to my list of planting practices from now on.
