Hiya', friend. Made a coupla' garden discoveries yesterday while mowing my waist-high grass....got some ripe watermelons from the seeds you gifted me, the tiniest watermelons I've ever grown, and very sweet. One was ripe and sweet as can be, but maybe the size of a baseball. I'll definitely save seeds from them.

.....and I gots gourds. Never grown them beore and didn't know I had them, but Beth started a crapload of seeds on the boat a while back, and they all got mixed up, so I brought home three "mystery sprouts" and found a home for them off to the side of the raised beds......Uncultivated ground, no amendments, no nothin but a "good luck to ya; ". Evidently, these things thrive on neglect.

Mine are growing now. As soon as the rain stops this weekend hopefully I can go check and see if any are ripe yet.

Yeah, Beth is still working, and so far her company hasn't had to lay anyone off....they have quite a few of their boats doing clean-up. She's probably headed back to work in the wee hours wednesday morning, possibly for a six-week hitch this time, won't know until later today.

I understand distance for water is a pain. It would be a little pricey, and not a fun job, but if your dad is letting you use this patch ongoing, would it be feasible to sink a pvc pipe line out to the patch and have a spigot "pop up" at the patch? If you don't want to tie in to existing pipes, you could have a connection near your current water supply and connect them with a hose. At least your dad's mowing would be clear. Anyway, you probably already have meditated on best choices, but just a thought. Still praying for rain for ya.
